Episode twenty five: food, glorious food! :)
Hello, you! Today was the day we’ve been waiting for, the cookout which was postponed since May. And now, for a preview of the wonderful food we had…
Anyhow, shall recount it. First, we started off with the chopping of onions. Me and M got the dubious honour of doing it and all that tears was cathartic. Seriously lor..so many onions!
And then we had to clear the board of chopped chicken pieces, this was, I believe, one of the grossest parts. The meat was gooeyishly firm and there was blood and fat and skin all on the board. EEEEK. Meanwhile, the spuds rumbled on the stove.
And then the rest is all a mystery to me because I started documenting the whole process. Ok, nice way of saying that I proceeded to slack. muahaha. (Hey, did the dishes in the end ok? take that, mama lemon!) I posed beside the stove to give mummy the impression that I know how to cook non ang-moh food now. muahaha. The spices were amazingly fragrant and everything was just superb. It could have been more lemak and spicier, since B. could even drink it as soup, but..it was still great since it was made with love. *beams*
I realised I tried doing everything except what I initially set out to do, peel potatoes. Oh well, will have many more opportunites at home. The potatoes, at one point in time, look like the statues on Easter Island. haha. I’ve decided I cannot give any instructions on cooking. Firstly, the potatoes were cut too small *oooops* and secondly, R. wanted us to remove the black thingy on top of the tomato but I was like, aiyoh, for what. Oh well. I guess my retribution was that I didn’t get a single potato! At all! Bah, humbug!
We had other fun stuff too. M. brought some japanese sauce salad thing which tasted great..for a person who believes all salads should have feta cheese, this one was exceptional. And so easy too. Only thing which put us to shame was that we humans, with opposable thumbs, couldn’t tear romano lettuce faster than a wabbit could. Oh well, we featherless bipeds have to admit our shortcomings sometimes.
K. did a salad too, cucumber and carrots (yum!! me like!!!) with, and get this right, instant natural jellyfish. MAJOR MAJOR WERT!!! Hahahahaahahah! What were the packaging people thinking? That we have brains the size of plankton? hahahaah! But it still tasted fabulous, maybe because I am partial to jelly stuff, but still, there was enough to go around, unlike at chinese wedding dinners where everyone zooms in on it, leaving me, the terrible chopstick-wielder person with the coleslaw. Hah!
F. brought glutinous rice and the mushrooms were great! That was all I ate since I don’t really like glutionous rice except in Nonya dumplings. And fungi rocks anyhow. She is quite gifted to be able to cook something like that. Even mummy was impressed when I listed what was cooked.
D. taught us how to make bread and butter pudding. Except, this time, no butter. It is so easy! I can’t believe it. She just kinda splosh the milk in, dumped some sugar, an egg (For a while, I seriously thought she went down to Cheers to buy AN EGG) and tore up the bread and plunked it in the oven. And it was good. Not as good as M. mum’s one (still the best so far) but yummy enough to satisfy me when everyone was, sigh, eating chocolate.
SIGHSIGHSIGH. There was See’s candy (!!!!!!!!!) and J. brought his mum’s brownies. GAH! I think next time I shall change my abstinence thing..to like, jackfruit or something. I want chocolateeeeeeeeeeeeeee! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were nice about it, not prolonging the torture by eating directly infront of me. Oh boy, this reminds me of me seeing the bird picking out of the milkwaybar and me thinking, “man, I would give up an arm to be that bird”. dang! Ok, never mind, ten more days. I will survive. I can survive. I hope. 75% through already!
The conversation was good, had the usual grumblings of the abomination that is CORS *gets hives upon mention of that word* and also about NS. Why on earth do they have a section called “man”? Testosterone levels higher there?? They can grunt in a lower voice? They can go without bathing for one day? Oh well!
Now, the really terrible thing is that I fell sick. I think its because I’ve been scuttling around too much the past few days. Oh well! Have this terrible flucoughfeversorethroat hybrid thing and mummy doesn’t allow me to go for the Liebe picnic tomorrow. And no matter of grovelling at her feet can change her mind. Sigh. But, the thought of what went on today is enough to sustain me. Muahaha.
Till next time,
debs whose brain is as wobbly as INSTANT NATUAL JELLYFISH!
Episode twenty four: and J makes 9! serendipity!
Hello, you! Oh boy…today was a day where I met nine people by chance. And just nice from all the different schools I’ve been too save primary school.
Firsty, I was late. Dang, I hatehatehate to say that.
But I was, because I forgot to wake up early to go zap the survey forms for the computer fair. *oops* So we got paired up and I teamed up with S. It was quite cool because I don’t really talk to her much one-on-one and we realised we were both from Student Venture in NJ. Just that I would have never met her due to the difference in the amount of white hair we have.
So we poddled along and got our survey forms filled up, fielded questions about bidding and gave out tracts. And then I saw X. from RV guides *shudder shudder* and NJ too. Well, our cumulative conversation (for all six years) never went beyond fifteen minutes, so..no biggie. But still, cool to see her doing well in *eeeks* bio engin.
Then I saw N., who apparently didn’t get the WA thing. But he was cool about it and, as usual, looked cute. Bwahaha. Made the engin module I took such a breeze when you have eye candy. Bwahaha.
Third person I met, L. from ESC because she was buying a lappy. It was quite cool to meet her cuz I finally managed to get her contacts, both msn and hp, which would make followup a breeze. Or so I hope. ![]()
Then I saw C.’s boyfriend, or, ex-boyfriend as I embarrasingly found out later. We met at her party in Nov and could surprisingly still remember each other. And, as usual, my mouth got me into trouble when I just babbled “so how’s C.? have not seen her since february.” And he went, well, neither have I. uh-oh. major major uh-oh. And I heard a condensed version. AND LO AND BEHOLD, C. appeared. (I mean, how many people buy lappys from school? Honestly! At the same time!) So yeah, fifth person was C. Tried to become invisible so as to avoid awkard scenes so I just got them to fill in the form and snuck off. Gah…stuff of such complexity is beyond me.
And then I got pissed off. Because I met J., A., and L. (I hope that I got her name right…gave the generic “oh, haven’t seen you in so long, how is life?” thing without saying the name. phew.) All three were juniors from NJ.. L. was from Student Venture and used to travel with her to school. Nice girl, still nice. (see, problem with being nice, people don’t remember your name! bwahaha) A., was someone I barely knew, and even though she was catholic, nice enough to fill in the form, but was well, a prick. The one who really got me riled up was J. Hello, you’re going to the best faculty in school, grow up! Guys your age may mostly be running amok in the pseudo-jungles of Tekong but you are here, and be glad dammit! I know you were my junior from Student Venture AND Council so don’t give your church name as “Sai Baba” you nimrod. Get a grip! It is NOT FUNNY! You are renouncing your religion you goondu! You go to a church, you don’t worship that person with an afro. URGH. And you think its funny?? I am ashamed of you. Grow up! Thank goodness my council post did not go to you. Otherwise I do not know what would have happened with Sdub. My whole committee would have just lost it. Wear your pants man. Stop toddling around in diapers. *glares*
Ok, now that the diatribe is over…
So I went home and went to Clementi to meet S. Because she was held up in school, I waited for her at the busstop. And guess what? I saw J. with her mummy! So cool! Apparently she’s going to do her Masters in English watchamacallit. Unfortunately, her classes are from 6-9pm every night and hence she can’t continue with our CG. Oh well, will still see her in school! Yay! And she was from RV guides *shuddershudder* and NJ too. ![]()
So went with S. to Orchard on this major book tour. And I can’t believe that after coming to Singapore for one year (cuz she’s from srilanka), she has never been to Orchard Road! Goodness gracious me! Oh well, we all have to start somewhere I guess. So we went to Sunny Bookshop first..and then trotted down to taka where we first went to library@orchard.
And then, I met J.! The ninth person! Hooboy! I’ve not spoken to him since sec 2!! And then I remember the trick R. and I played on him in chinese remedial. AHAHAHAHA. And all his Ally McBeal commentaries. But, he has sobered down alot. And is coming to uni to do econs, so yay, will see more of him next year I guess. ![]()
After that S. and I went to Kino and Borders and I was in mini heaven again. I love books. And I love today, apart from the rub-in with the pricks…ohohoh, and there was this girl who actually indicated interest in the survey! Supa cool! Yeehaw! It was also quite embarrasing doing the survey because I was asked a gajillion times “Isn’t this the Campus Crusades survey?” Yes it is, we pilfered it. I am sorry we are lazy. haha, but oh well, one person indicating interest is better than none! ![]()
Yayness! To serendipity and to a fantastic cookout tomorrow!
Till next time,
debs who can’t wait to peel potatoes
Episode twenty three: and i’m so happy, so very happy
HELLO, YOU!
Dr. Lo recieved my vibes! I got it! YAYNESS! *prances around the room* Major YAYNESS! 242424242424242424242424YAYYYYYYYYYYYY! So, now I am on my way to financing my SEP. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! Too happy!
And I got preallocated Transport Planning! Like how cool is that? It is a SS module under the science basket. I love USP..for now at least. Yay!!
Oh, plus I got the three geog modules for one pt each, and R is doing all three with me! YAY! And those are the only three exams I have because the USP ones are non examinable. So my exam timetable is 19th Nov, 23rd morn, 23rd evening. And then, I! AM! FREE! So I’ve got a four day week, with weds off..which means, study two days, rest one day, study two days, weekend! ![]()
the only sucky thing is the India module which I hope to get. Because it is at 8am on tues and fri. And Mon and Thurs nights I got CF stuffies. AND if my only class ends at 10am on tues,I think I would be highly irregular at sunset and FTs. AND there is a 20pg essay to write. Oh boy. maybe I should take modernism in Lit instead. But ah, I hate those stupid absurdist plays. Pinter and Beckett can bite my dust. I shall just hope there are cute indian guys in class. *beams*
Oh, borrowed “Franny and Zooey” by J.D. Salinger. Initially I was like, J.D. Salinger (cue: furrowed brow)..isn’t that the singer? Oh man, how stupid of me to mix him up with the singer k.d Lang. haha. its all in the Dees my dear…. J.D. Salinger was famous for “Catcher in the Rye”. oh well.
anyway, there was this funny section and I laughed out on the MRT while reading it. (context: this guy’s mum is in the same toilet as him as he shaves his beard and the mum wants to know why doesnt he want to get married) here goes:
I like to ride the trains too much. You never get to sit next to the window any more when you’re married.
wahahaa! I shall tell my mummy that next time. haha! plus, i really like train rides. haah! this is a happy happy day!
And I got really pretty shoes on major discount from URS. ANDANDAND i finally got a nice denim skirt. cheaply too. Oh boy, its a happy day! ![]()
till next time,
debs who wants to eat cupcakes with frosting, or krispy kreme doughnuts with frosting, or just..PLAIN frosting with sprinkles!!!
Episode twenty two: dinner and lunch
Hello, you! Had CG retreat last night, ok, it wasn’t even a retreat for me because I couldn’t stay. dang. But it was good! *chipping sound* muahahaah. But they don’t like my future daughter’s name! How upsetting! Doesn’t Ingrid sound good? Bah.
The 2truth1lie thing was hilarious. The worship was good and the sharing was authentic. I like. *beams* I realised most people have the same problem in yr one, the whole this-world-stinks thingy. oh well. Shall strive to be nice next sem, even though I don’t really want to? TRY!!! *frowns*
Met J., A., and M. for lunch today at the japanese place at clementi. It was good. Even though circumstances were tough.
YAY! thats us!!! *beams* I love this new photo function. heh. These are the people who went through all that shit with me for one and a half years. Thank God for friends. Shall blog more later….i want to watch Bring It On! ![]()
My father is driving me insane. Sue me.
Till next time,
debs who has this sudden craving to eat cream corn. wert, indeed!

Hello, you! I love this whole thing. And nary a sight of pink too!
and a picture from church camp, just for the heck of trying out uploading a picture. I can see my old arts rags being stripped away…the computer phonenix is rising from the ashes. *RAWR* oh wait…*TWEET*
Love,
debs who should have yakult fed intravenously
Episode twenty: MAJOR BIG SHINY GRIN
Hello, you! *beams*
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I am so happy!!! *bounce bounce bounce* YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! SMILESMILESMILESMILESMILE! It was one of the happiest msg’s i’ve ever received!
Ok, ’nuff happiness. ![]()
am of two minds now (yes, my brain actually exists). should I go for AnnTIC and then a one week vacation to Thailand (Chiang Mai, Bangkok and the like) ORRRRRRRRRR should I just go Taiwan for two weeks?
Since I’ve been to Thailand and AnnTIC is only in JB (plus have gone for way too many VCF camps this year)…And going Taiwan entails stopping over at HK! Oh man, this doesnt even seem like a choice at all!
Oh, got a job on 10th sept! woohoo! it is a good day today! Now all I have to do is cross my toes, eyes, fingers, shoelaces and legs that I get the writing centre thingy and then it will be a permanent thingy with some semblance of not leaching of my parents entirely.
till next time,
debs who is so happy its as though she’s eaten a rainbow
Episode nineteen: Things I want to do

Till next time,
debs who loves chocolate so much she dreamt of it last night
Episode eighteen: fadiman-esque
Hello, you! Being trapped at home for the next few days sounds quite good after all. I’ve got a mountain, literal-ly *vwahaha* of books to entertain me. and whats more, mummy is churning out wonderful dishes..just had macaroni pie. *whoopieee..goldberg?* and S. is back from the land of redbook waving droids. wooohoo! what luck! ![]()
anyway, have to share this excerpt from a book. my lunch nearly rocketed out of my nose when i read it. Shall read more serious stuff when eating, to prevent the whole coughing-laughing-sneezing-choking incident from occuring again.
On the train this guy was staring at me, almost in a ‘do I know you’ kind of way. I ignored it for a while and kept reading, but every time I glanced up he was still looking at me…I was in the mood for sociological interpersonal experiments so the next time I looked up and saw that he was still at it I stared back, expressionlessly and kind of aggressively, and we made eye contact for a few long seconds and then still completely expressionless I slowly stuck one finger in my nose, staring at him the whole time. It worked like a charm…
TOO! FUNNY! I shall try this next time. HAHAHAHAHAAHAH! Gold digger. HAHAAHAH! Oh no, there goes my resolution to at least try to be more feminine. Ah heck. It shall be chucked together with my resolution to buy a comb. Why bother to comb hair anyway? One of those questions I could never really answer.
Back to books. Even “Run with the Horses” which A. loaned me has its quirks. Yes, it is supposed to be on the book of Jeremiah and was written by the guy who taught the guy who spoke at EARC. He was yada-ing on how some people define themselves minimally..and then he wrote “featherless bipeds”. I was like, WERT! heehee. The good thing about borrowing books from other people, you pay nothing and enjoy everything. Kinda solves the free lunch conundrum. Plus you get to point and laugh at people who were conned into buying it at LPC.
I’ve decided to be happy. And tell the lit dept to stuff it. Religious studies here I come. *tarzan yodeling* Oh wait, does tarzan yodel? *tarzan in a milkmaid outfit yodelling*
wopppppeee!
till next time,
debs who wants MORE! PIE! NOW! yodel!
Episode seventeen: GAHGAHGAH
Hello, *panicked look* you! Oh my goodness, I just realised the fortune of occassionally reading blogs. I just found out that bidding starts next WED!! Insane! No wonder S. and R. have been bugging me to quickly pick my modules. This signals doom in five ways
- The holidays are ending.
- I can’t decide between my USP modules. All sound fantastic!
- I can’t decide if I should minor
- I can’t decide between my minors – English Studies or Religious Studies
- I need a timetable which facilitates my sleeping habits…and well, vcf stuffies I guess
Points 2,3,4 are related. I know if I want heed the instincts of my heart, I should do a minor in religious studies. And the USP module would be Islam Studies instead of Exploring Modernity. Both don’t have exams *smirk* but C. said that the lecturer for IS is gross. The lecturer for Modernity is Dr. M. I thoroughly enjoyed writing class and that is because I enjoy writing. However, I did not really enjoy his lessons. I think we would drive each other nuts once again if we had the same cheenapok face-off. Which brought me endless delight, and him, endless suffering. Hmmm…
The worst thing is, I have insufficient UEs! Dammit! Why must the CBM under USP be counted under UEs?? If I take the English Studies minor, I would have a really tight module arrangement but it would be breathe-able. BUT, if I really did a religious studies module, then I would have to force myself to either 1. Definitely go on SEP so that I can six geog modules and S/U everything *snark* or 2. Take a special sem next june. Both sound good, but option 2 sounds less expensive.
Which brings me to my next problem. If I am super sure that I want to go on MEET, I need a breathable timetable. Coupled with SF on monday nights and CG on thursday nights which strongly suggest a timetable ending at six on both days. Lest, sem 1 repeats itself and I end up ponning CG. And if sunset prayer were to feature in my calendar…gah! No more convenient HY1101. But I know, regardless of my timetable, my heart is still there and I will turn up. Although, waiting ages doesn’t sound terribly appealing.
Decisions! Decisions!
And I still hold that all unis in singapore have bidding to prepare us for the IR. They just want a graduate’s paycheck to go to those slot machines and hence they prep us eveyr six months for it. Harrumph!
Till next time,
debs who freaked out when the Hello Panda biscuits were OILY!
Episode sixteen: what am I going to do, after graduating?
Hello, you!
Nothing is worth more than this day.
——–Goethe
INDEED!! I received such great news today! R. msged me that X. received Christ. OH BOY!!! OH BOY!!! OH BOY!!! Such fantasmerrific news!!! Ah! Indeed God works in His perfect timing. I am so happy!!! And I know all the flippyflappy winged guys in heaven are probably having a big happy pie-and-cake party too!!!! *big major shiny grin* YAY YAY YAY!!!!!!! Bounce with me!!!
Had quite an interesting day today. Firstly had brunch with Aunty I. and Aunty B. at Breko. It was quite cool to have a meal with two ladies over the age of 50 at a chillout place. Heh. Plus the pancakes were good. ![]()
Then went for A.’s commencement and had alot of orange juice, courtesy of UCC. Saw B., L., and I. She looked so cute in her gown, like a little doll. I was about to become another pillar when we were whisked away to moonfish. Ok, that was a major time-space compression, within which I had to honour my words *shameful look* and take an exhilirating ride to milennia. rain never tasted so good. and so did the snails!!! who would have thought those slimy wormy thingies would taste so good when basted with garlic and with mushrooms. mmmm, fungi and slime go well togehter. And the lasagne was touche! All that cheese went straight to the hips, but was worth it. (or so I say now). company was entertaining and food was great. what more could one ask for? ok, maybe some lipo.
Seeing so many silverandgold hoods today really set me thinking. What am I going to do, after graduating? Three out of the four camps (the exception being LPC) all talked about the SAME TOPIC. I mean hullo, what is the likelihood of Bishop Hwa Yung, Bishop Moses Tay and Rev Malcom Whatever emphasising the need for the same thing? Unless of course there has been talk in Christian circles about the need for it, but still, circles are usually denominational-based
and here we have anglicans and methodists. hmmm. *twiddles hair and thumbs*
But it will be a really long and lonely road, one which I think very few people would be willing to go along. It is super exciting! And I know mummy and daddy may be behind me on this. But studying for another approximately seven years does not really bode well. Maybe i should break it up, one and a half, four and a half. Hmmm. Oh well, can only pray. Many things can happen in
the next three years. I really really need to pray about this, since it concerns like, my whole life? Oh well. *small shrug* Life is full of decisions. thinkthinkthinkthinkthinkthinkthink.
And MEET! gah. so many things to pray for. so much time too. yayness ![]()
10th Aug is coming. One majorly anticipated event, to abate my guilt concerning piracy. (WOULD YOU STEAL A HANDBAG? WOULD YOU STEAL A CAR? WOULD YOU STEAL A MOVIE? finefinefinefinefine) Going for the Corinne May Concert. WHOPPEE!! But, it is also the day A. goes back home. I am so sad. As in, it has been gnawing on the back of my head. Ok, not back, middle. Oh alright, front. Maybe I should go for a lobotomy and forget it all. But, I can’t. No matter how hard I try… *sigh*
One flew east
One flew west
One flew over the cuckoo’s nest
Love,
debs who nearly crumbled in candy empire
