Episode 254: 很多东西都没有控制

don’t ask yourself questions you cannot answer. because the answer will never fail to disappoint.

don’t ever ask ‘why’, or ‘how come’, or ‘alamak why not’, because you do not wish to hear the answer.

questions are like candy. one too many and you start to decay.

if you shut the internal voice up long enough, everything will become alright.

I’ve crossed deserts for miles
Swam water for time
Searching places to find
A piece of something to call mine
A piece of something to call mine

Ran along many moors
Walked through many doors
The place where I wanna be
Is the place I can call mine
(all saints)

Episode 253: one up

so the exams started off with evo paper and me being stumped at 50% of it. like seriously 50% completely do not know how to do. the ever persistent optimist in me thought, hey, life isn’t so tough, there are always other papers to sit for. famous last words.
Dear Monday exam lecturer,
i do not like coding for dna.  i honestly don’t. i have absolutely no idea what evolutionary change does to this particular allele. don’t ask me to pray to the gods of the bell curve. there is no such thing as bell curve in cretin programme. once again, my anti-codons are lining up against you.
love,
haplorrhini-gurl. (see, i remembered how to spell that silly group name!)

——————————

so today i had two papers. hist in the morning and geogthought at night. hist was alright all the way till the long essay. have you ever not written anything for 20 minutes in an exam before? well neither have i until today. congratulations on having nothing to write, miss i-am-too-scatterbrain-to-remember-case-examples, but at least that is only 33% of the exam, not as bad as monday! i stand corrected.

Dear hist exam lecturer,
i really enjoyed your class. your picture on the student feedback form generated a lot of laughs for me too. but seriously, i swear i heard you said you were going to test the whole module for the essay. whole module, my love, is not 1850-1950. whole module is from zhu-yuan-i-am-control-freak-zhang’s life. which by the way, is 1300. WHERE DID THE 350 years go to? but i still think you’re cute when you bounce.
love,
i know what honjisuijaku means girl

————————

and then i had geogthought at 5pm. going to TH was quite an adventure with V cuz we had to waddle through some dubious looking mud pools. haha entering an exam in style. drench is the new black. and the lightning and thunder were just mere premonitions of the exam. i think i’ve never see an exam more difficult than this. the first question really threw me off course. like, big time. was so terribly demoralised 50minutes into the exam. second question was equally nasty, had no examples once again and i only like my last answer, of which i think my hand went into overdrive, wrote super fast i had 5 minutes to spare. to do nothing but sigh because i couldnt write anything else. so there you go, for the last paper, 66%! one up! not a single polite word was uttered by my classmates. we swim and sink together as a class.

dear secondlastpaper lecturers,
if i was less nerdy, all my nerd love for geog would have died away with this paper. dudes. setting exam from ONE reading is uncool. ESPECIALLY WHEN ALL YOU TALKED ABOUT WERE TREE HUGGING WOMEN. uncool. that is the most civil i can be to you. but the other lecturer is cool. much dorky love to that.
love,
miss female who is not anywhere near the project. hurhur.

—————————–

but you know what, despite all these setbacks, it is during the preparations for the exam that were remarkable. having completed my final essay one day into reading week, and having not done ANY readings for all three subjects, God like seriously multiplied my time.

Even when writing the extra hist essay, because of the rush for time it was churned out in four hours, and it did better than the thinkpiece (phew, fortunately i did the extra essay!) but the point is not in the grade but in the speed at which it got churned out. definitely not me cuz i can’t do it on my own (i’m no superman! *hearts to scrubs*)

and even previous nights, when I should have been desperately panicking, after daddy and mummy prayed, there was this overwhelming sense of peace that enabled me to just focus on what is at hand. and as much as i complain about the stinky exam questions, i know i studied to the best that i could in that short 5 days. so there. no qualms about it.

hey wisdom teeth, stop growing already.

Episode 252: next stop, welcometotherealworld interchange

Sending R off to nepal for eight months today was poignant. Of the motley crue assembled, same-name is going to ROM next month, R is going to frolic in the fields of Shangrila whilst teaching about HIV to the kids (ok not quite frolicking, prancing perhaps), conspicuously absent A is going to be an investment banker, and me and S are having our exams.

somehow, being at different stations in life kills me a bit.

—————————

in other news, the airport was super pretty! even with so few hours of sleep i could take in the entire festive atmosphere. the baubles, the tinsel and the ever-so-subtle carols. i can’t wait for ann.tic. to be over so that i can go hop on me plane to join me parents :) *sparkly smile*

Episode 251: you can run but you cannot hide

i am going to hunt you down, you twerp who passed the stomach flu virus to me. at this important point in the sem. roar.

in other news, thinkpieceisintheivlebin. YAY! :D

Episode 250: Geography, your place or mine?

oh that has got to be the best class party ever. i was waiting for council to quickly end so i could go and boy was it worth the wait. going to T’s place was a bit scary tho, cuz there was a lot of hard liquor in the car. if we crashed, we’d have gone off in a blaze of glory.

first the food:
apart from the usual barbie grub, there was lamb chops and beef steak with rosemary and wine sauce. and there was 10kg worth of dory fish marinated in some chilli thing which was just fab. and then for those vegetarians who keep eating our forests, there was veggie kebabs with mushrooms and stuff.

and then came dessert. now dessert makes me weak in the knees and this one, i swear, is the bee’s knees (hurhur punny name thing). A. made 1) key lime pie, 2) baked alaska and 3) tiramisu. FROM SCRATCH. was chatting with E in the kitchen whilst watching him whisk the eggwhites with sugar, it was just like how the cookbooks described…glossy. if we werent of different sexual orientations, i would definitely marry him. seriously, guys who can make such fabulouso dessert are awesomest.

and then came the even funner bits.

the game
we played polar bear but like yakuza style.

and our reasons for killing each other off was like “oh its deepavali tomorrow..let’s kill V”. haha, such ethnically-conscious people we are. Our god was unavailable to lead the game and put our calls on hold and sometimes our god was green and was for rent. and R and i were so confused and she even thought she was a polar bear and started killing people even though she wasn’t one. it was also a good game to play cuz we had to know everyone’s names, otherwise we couldn’t kill them. haha

i think God is very good. I wanted hons year to be a fun time with the class. and even though the sem didn’t start of well cuz i was (and still am) so intimidated by the rest of them, the first class barbie at pgp was good. then came the whole class ganging up against h.n. and then today :)

yay :)

Episode 249: shiny sparkly things

ok so this week really stinks. but before that some happy encounters

today we did our final presentation for evilweevil compulsory module and it was on the journal Children’s.Geographies. How cool is that? What is even cooler was that we dressed up for it and hence my many tiaras come in handy. When we were going home, V said “i dare you to wear your tiara all the way to the bus-stop”, and naturally, having really thick skin, i did, although i insisted on trotting along the ulu-fied trek out of hons room. But when we reached U.SP block, i went “hey V, if you wear the tiara all the way to ce.ntral lib busstop and wear it till your shuttle bus comes, you won’t have to treat me to lunch.”

And well, birds of a feather flock together. So there we were, two ponces, one who wore the tiara all the way to middle of the road outside the cen.tral lib busstop and the other, who wore it for ten minutes at the most crowded busstop on campus and crossing her fingers the whole time that her cuteindianboy won’t turn up. teeheehee.

———————-

oh and for said presentation, last week when the group presented on Antipode, the radical journal (radical in the sense of political economy/marxist etc sense), their ending was superb. L said “joey, prepare the finale” and they played be.yonce’s “to the left”. haha! i now do know what you mean, you subliminal message mtv person. :D

———————-

oh and watching NFL on friday, the miamisharksdolphins vs nygiants, the scrolling thingy at the bottom of the screen went tamil.tigers <insert some random horrible thing they did>, and i was like, hmm tamil.tigers, they sound kind of familiar but i’ve never seen them on the scoreboard before.

well done, miss politically uninformed.

———————-

one of the girls in hist religion class gave her temple tour presentation and said the guide told her the four statues represented the Four Heavenly Kings. oh i see, i always knew and.y lau was a higher being. it took a lot of willpower to not laugh. haha

reminds me of that scene from the beginning of the book “teenage.textbook” where the guy is late for school and the school warden (of a different race) asks him what his name is, and he goes “tua peh kong”. haha.

oh and Dr D danced in class to some silly japanese MTV on youtub.e called “Tarako”. that he could pre-empt the steps of the two girl dances is, well, bizzare to say the least. SPIRIT FINGERS EVERYBODY. bwahahah.

——————

oh the stupid think piece is driving me nuts. nutsnutsnutsnutsnuts. what sort of moronic question is it to ask people to think about an issue but you don’t really need to cite, just think about it? if i wanted to think about it, i’d just think la. and not think about thinking. tmd.

i can’t think.

and i’ve 5000 words due wed and two 1500 words due fri.

if only the world was all about wearing tiaras and prancing to the bus stop and then laughing really hard at your friend who looks like a ponce cuz she’s wearing a tiara whilst waiting for the bus. haiz.

stink.
